When I first became an electrician I thought that I would be set for life. You see becoming an electrician wasn’t a lifelong dream of mine, but I know that it was a good career choice.
First of all there were benefits attached. All types of benefits, not just health benefits, but legal benefits, tuition reimbursement, free schooling and classes. There was an opportunity to work on skyscrapers, bridges, underground, and so much more. You see just starting out you don’t get all those benefits, you start at the bottom as an apprentice.
When I first started as an apprentice in 1998 the pay was $9.00 an hour. not much, but what other job would pay you that much to not know anything, go out get coffee for the crew, and learn a skilled trade. We were taught to take pride in our work and in our union, and all that was wonderful.
It was great, I worked a steady 8 years, going through the apprenticeship and Journeyman, then came my first layoff. Boom! well not boom, you see one of the benefits we had was a fund that was put away while we were working, that we could request for when we were unemployed, it is your own money, but it worked sort of like a trust fund, where you needed a reason to request it, i.e. unemployment, kid’s tuition, medical reasons etc. Not a bad deal? right?
I would be out a couple of months from work, request money If I needed it, and then go back to work and make really good money. I believe I was making around $41.00 dollars at that time (2006) and it was a great deal of money to make, my wife was also working and even though I knew I was spending more than I should have, I wasn’t worried. because I thought that they had my back (employers). Well they did, but the problem is we are in a time that we never saw before. Did I fail to mention that I bought my home in the Fall of 2005, which is pretty much the peak of the Housing BOOM. So my mortgage was pretty high. The good thing was that my interest rate was locked and We had really great Credit.
Electrician makes a shocking discovery
The good thing was that I worked straight from mid 2007- early 2009 (brief 2 week layoff in 2008). But my Mortgage was hurting me. I mean during the times in 2006, 2007 that I was Laid off I got into the entrepreneurial mindset I went to T. Harv Eker’sCourse Secret’s of the Millionaire mind and starting reading books like Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon hill, that’s when a lot of things changed for me. My Mindset was that this Job that I have is not mine, I don’t own it, and I can’t sell it. I can’t set my hours, and If I don’t go in, I get fired or talked to(to put it nicely).
So I was in the position that I wanted to get out of that situation, because i was not in control, it wasn’t just about money, even though money is very important, I personally don’t love it or Love things, that just me. Yes I like my MAC, and Iphone and things like that, but basically all I need is for my family to eat, be healthy, and smile.
The Electrician Merry Go Round would continue, I would go to work for a few months, get laid off, then try to learn as much as I can about making a living from home.
I’ve done all type of home based businesses, and what my problem was that I thought everything was a great opportunity. Even if that was true, I needed to be focused. That is what I have learned, and that is what I have been doing lately to discipline myself, and then teach others to do the same. YOu see I get tired of going to work, being told that I’m lucky to have it, and then being told what to do in a demeaning manor, come on! do you want to live like that. I personally am a Christian, and one of the things that means for me is I try do better, not pretend I am better. I have to do my Job, but not bow down to another person who does not own his job, and is just looking for other people to blame when something at the workplace goes wrong.
Electrician makes a shocking discovery
So that is Why I Love the Homes based business arena, it is where I found God (yes I found Jesus at an event). another story for another time. The home based business arena is a place where you meet people who want you to be successful, happy and help others do the same. They call that a no-Brainer.
Yes most of my friends ignore what I do, just because they don’t understand it, or are just happy with what they do.
So basically what I want to share with you, is that I am in a home based business, I am debt free, I work with so many great people that are deidicated to each others success.
